The whole village celebrates when the cows, decorated with hand made flowery headdresses for the occasion, come down from the high pastures back to the barn for winter.
An old tradition ...
the animals follow in order - cows, calves, bulls, young oxen then small animals like sheep and goats - their way down to the valley.
On this festive day locals and people from all over the world come to celebrate, the delicacies on offer are reason alone! A farmer's market offers Zillertal specialities like Krapfen, Melchermuas, Zerggl, home made bread, Speck, Zirbenschnaps and sweet things.
Music and dancing are naturally part of the festivities!
